Using Mental Tricks to Burn Fat

Oftentimes we play mental games inside our head that can contribute to us gaining weight or keeping the fat we already have on our bodies. The same way we use the mind games to gain weight we can also use mental tricks to lose weight. We can learn to recognize when these games are causing us to get off track and actively change our behavior.

One of the biggest games we play is the one where we treat ourselves to some sort of junk food because it is a special occasion. Almost every day we will have some sort of special occasion that we can use to avoid the guilt of eating bad. A friend's birthday, Friday or end of the workweek, a holiday, a raise or new job, lunch with a friend, and the list goes on and on. The problem is that there can always be a special occasion if we choose to call it one and in truth we are only looking for a way to avoid guilt. Once you recognize the fact that this is just a mental trick you can use it to your advantage. Once you see that it is just a trick to avoid guilt then it no longer works to take away the feeling of falling off your diet. Instead focus on the fact that you can still enjoy your special occasion without eating bad food. Then you can have the good times of the occasion and not have to feel the newfound guilt by falling prey to this trick.

Another one that can trick us is when we feel obligated to take some more food from someone that has offered it in an effort to be polite. You see when grandma offers an extra helping of her famous mashed potatoes we feel like if we turn her down that we will be insulting her. The trick is to remember that by accepting the extra food we are insulting ourselves. Instead of accepting the food and falling off of your diet it can be a good idea to find a healthy compromise. This can be either caring about yourself enough to stand strong and explain that you truly appreciate the gesture but you will have to turn it down or that you go ahead and accept the food but accept it in a way that you can dispose of it at a later time (taking it to go for example if that is possible). Sometimes you have to tell that little white lie in order to look out for someone else's feelings. Just be sure you also look out for your own needs at the same time.

Another trick that can hang us up is the tried and true bargain that really is not a bargain. For example the most common place to see this in action is at the movie theater. The small drink or popcorn is generally a few dollars and then each size larger is only a quarter or so more. It can be very tempting to get a larger size than you need just because it is such a bargain. You have to remind yourself that it is not actually a bargain if you do not need it in the first place. If you only need the small then paying even one cent more for the medium is actually a waste of money and more importantly can be deadly for your fat loss goals.

Watching out for these tricks can make the difference between losing weight quickly and not at all.
