When Losing a Pound a Day is Just a Promise to Get Your Dollar

Fill In Your Details

Author: Stewart C

Weight loss, or more broadly, weight control has now become an industry on its own, with proponents operating both on the Internet and in brick-and-mortar venues. With the surprising growth of this industry in just a few decades, it's not surprising that many have resorted to deception and fraud to sell bogus weight loss programs.

One of the easiest ways to detect fraud is by reading the fine print. It has been a trend for weight loss programs to emphasize all the positive points, without going into detail, and without discussing the negative points as well.

However, it might generally be bad marketing to discuss the negative aspects of weight loss programs. However, complete and undiluted information should always be available to both actual customers and the public.

Knowing the tactics of the business

The success of protecting one's self from fraudsters can be bolstered by knowing what to look for in advertised programs. The following are easy ways to detect whether a company or a group is simply trying to get your money or if it is selling a legitimate and safe weight loss program.

1. If the company advertising the weight loss program is saying that "the government is doing everything to hide this truth" or "doctors and nutritionists hate this", it's time to ask whether the company can come up with legitimate documents supporting its claims.

Unfounded claims that valorize a weight loss program by slinging mud to imaginary institutions and the government is a bad sign. If the company cannot provide the proof, walk away.

2. If the weight loss program promises things like "you will lose all those unwanted pounds while you are asleep", then chances are, all that you will lose to the weight loss program is your money.

Real weight loss involves a combination of physical fitness and a healthy, balanced diet. It has nothing to do with eating dozens of protein bars or placing a vibrating sauna belt around your waist for 12 hours.

3. Remember that diets that radically modify your eating habits will inevitably fail. If a diet for instance, approves only of one or two food types, then the diet itself will fail to provide your body with sufficient nutrition.

If you lose the weight due to malnutrition, then you are not better off from where you first started. Obesity is one form of malnutrition- extreme weight loss due to lack of macronutrients and micronutrients is also one form of malnutrition.

4. Weight loss programs that endorse chemical-based weight loss should be considered dangerous- because without exercise and a sensible diet, muscle tissues begin to waste away.

A good weight loss program should be a sensible combination of diet and exercise.

If possible, the ultimate goal of weight loss should be accomplished with the help of food supplements that would address extreme hunger pangs and uncontrollable cravings.

5. If a weight loss plan aims to alter eating behavior, then the change encouraged should be permanent.

If the weight loss plan is too shortsighted, then there might be a chance that bad eating habits would resurface after the available information from the weight loss plan has been exhausted.
