4 Psoas Exercises for Activation, Mobility & Function (STOP STRETCHING!)

The psoas is often cast as a problem-muscle, contributing to squat depth problems (wrong), hip pain (possible) and poor posture (unlikely) and more, at which point it’s banished to the corner of the gym for a regular dose of static stretching.

But the psoas is much more than a muscle that requires just (ineffective) stretching methods – it has to be activated, lengthened, strengthened and integrated into functional movement patterns just like EVERY OTHER MUSCLE IN YOUR BODY.

So in this week’s mobility ↔️ strength workouts, we’re going to target the psoas to get it doing what it’s supposed to do, which includes flexion of the hip, contributing to lumbar spine stability and helping with hip joint centration.

You probably have no idea what most of these exercises are and that’s a good thing because you know you’ll be working something new, which is good for your body AND brain!

Perfect for those stuck at home like me due to the pandemic i.e. most of the free world because one of the most important things we’ve lost in this time is human connection, so I’ve decided to start doing live workouts to replace some of that.

– Fridays from 1-130pm (workout then Q&A if time allows)

We’ll be covering topics like this, as well as doing a little “finisher” workout to get the heart rate up, blood pumping and integrate what you just learned.
