The culmination of my master’s thesis, “The Brain Behind Myofascial Trigger Points” (breath is key, for more see https://spmx.ca/trp). Though this video was staged, it accurately reflects the typical trigger point treatments I perform daily in clinic. Following this protocol cut my average release times down from 2-4 minutes to often under a minute in cases of referred pain.
Recommended protocol:
0:20 Warm up tissues
0:35 Palpate for taut band/tender point
0:41 Stretch out muscle adhesions
1:00 Locate TrP
1:05 Confirm TrP presence via referral
1:10 Apply first pressure, coach w/”weighted breathing” technique
1:37 Check-in, continue w/second breath and pressure as needed
1:50 “Mountain/valley” breathing metaphor
2:01 Resolving pain, flushing area, massaging referral site
